Salty Buttersticks

1/4 cup butter or margarine
2 cups flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 cup milk
Sprinkling of salt, if desired

Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Melt butter in a 9-inch square pan in preheating oven. Remove as soon as butter melts. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add milk and mix with a fork until dough clings together. Turn out onto a foured board and knead lightly, about 10 times. Roll to a 6 inch square about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into 12 strips, each about 1 inch by 3 inches. Dip each strip in butter in pan to coat, then lay in pan in rows. Sprinkle with additional salt, if desired. Bake 15 to 20 minutes. Makes 6 servings.

Note: I can never make this fit into a 9 inch pan, so I usually do it in a 9x13. I probably roll it out thinner and make more than 12. We like them a little crisper, so by them being a little thinner they cook crisper. Also, a trick I learned is lean the pan so the butter runs to the bottom, it makes it easier to coat the strips.
We love these with pasta dishes. They are so fast to make.
